Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday assured the people of having a "pothole-free Diwali", after inspecting the conditions of the roads across the national capital.

The Delhi Chief Minister inspected the roads of NSIC Okhla, Modi Mill Flyover, Chirag Delhi, Tughlakabad Extension, Mathura Road, and Ashram Chowk and gave necessary instructions to repair all damaged Public Works Department (PWD) roads before Diwali.

Speaking to the media after her inspection, Atishi said, "For two days, Arvind Kejriwal and I inspected the roads of Delhi and found that the condition of roads is very bad... Arvind Kejriwal has given a call to all the party MLAs and ministers to work towards restoring the roads of Delhi at the earliest..."

"I have taken up the responsibility for roads in south and south-east Delhi. Saurabh Bharadwaj is responsible for inspecting East Delhi roads, Gopal Rai will be inspecting the roads of north-east Delhi, Imran Hussain will be inspecting the roads of central and New Delhi districts, Kailash Gehlot will be responsible for south-west and Outer Delhi, and Mukesh Sehrawat for north-west Delhi... We will try to give pothole-free roads to the people of Delhi by Diwali ...," she added.

As per the Delhi government's road assessment and repair plan, after one week of inspection of the 1,400-km stretch of PWD roads, it will be decided which roads need "complete repair", "partial repair" and which need to be rebuilt. Repair work will begin the week after the inspection.

Earlier last week, the chief minister was handed over a letter by Arvind Kejriwal during the Assembly session, requesting her to repair the damaged roads in the city.

The chief minister said that the roads were damaged in the city because of work undertaken by power discoms and the Delhi Jal Board, after which repair work has not been done.
