Chitra Sarwara, an independent candidate from Haryana's Ambala Cantt Assembly seat, was leading against BJP's senior leader and former cabinet minister Anil Vij.

As per the data provided by the Election Commission while writing this news story, Sarwara was leading by 671 votes against Vij, with a total votes of 17,000 after five rounds of counting.

Sarwara is contesting against senior BJP leader Anil Vij, a six-time BJP MLA from Ambala Cantt, and Congress's Parvinder Pal Pari in the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls.

Anil Vij, a prominent figure in Haryana politics, has said that he will stake claim to the Chief Minister's post if the BJP wins the Assembly polls.

The ruling BJP has crossed the halfway mark of 45 in the Haryana assembly polls and is leading on 48 seats now, while the Congress was ahead on 33, according to the latest trends by the Election Commission.

The BJP, under the leadership of Nayab Singh Saini, is eyeing a third term in the state, while the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress is aiming to regain power in the agriculture-dominated state after ten years.

The majority mark for the 90-member assembly is 46.
