  • He registered the scores of 0 and 12 in 1st Test
  • Concerns were raised over Rahul's form in the red-ball format

Bengaluru's local boy KL Rahul had a forgetful outing at his own home ground in the 1st Test between India and New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka batter failed to make a mark in both the innings as he registered the scores of 0 and 12 in the Bengaluru Test match. During India's 2nd innings, Rahul walked out to bat in the 85th over when Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed at 150 runs off Ajaz patel's delivery. India were already in a decent position, having scored 408 runs for the loss of four wickets. This was the first wicket that had fallen on Day 4 with Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz dominating the proceedings throughout the day.

KL Rahul was expected to carry the momentum as he joined Pant at the crease. While Pant, who was playing second fiddle to an aggressive Sarfaraz, switched to become the aggressor after his dismissal. Pant continued to take on the bowlers and KL Rahul started off with caution. The star wicketkeepeer-batter was involved in an unfortunate dismissal as he got bowled at 99 by William ORourke's delivery. Soon his wicket was followed by KL Rahul's, who fell right before the tea break.
A certain section of fans was upset with Rahul's performance and called for him to be dropped from the Indian Test side. Many social media users felt that with Sarfaraz scoring a brilliant hundred, he should not be dropped from the playing XI and Rahul should make way for him.

KL Rahul's form a concern?

Rahul has been under immense scrutiny lately owing to his inconsistent form in the format. After a seven-month break, Rahul's comeback in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai did not go as planned, with scores of 16 and an unbeaten 22. Despite these setbacks, he remains an important part of India’s plans, though there are concerns about his approach in the longer format. However, he impressed with a quick-fire fifty in the 2nd innings of 2nd Test in Kanpur.
