Man, 25, arrested after riot police lock down Anstruther street

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a disturbance on an Anstruther street on Friday.

Police in riot gear were forced to lock down March Crescent, at the junction with Fowler Street, after a “disturbance” sparked by a raid.

Images showed police in riot gear with shields outside a property.

Locals reported a large emergency presence of around 18 police vehicles in the area.

Dog units were also deployed.

Police say officers attended the property to execute a warrant on Friday afternoon.

The road was closed after a “disturbance” following the raid just before 2pm.

It reopened just before 7pm.

‘Items thrown on road’ as riot police descend on Anstruther street

One resident said: “I saw it at about 1.45pm, there was just one police car at that point.

“There are now numerous cars, vans and riot police.

“There seems to have been items thrown on the road.

“They have moved everyone away from the cordon.”

Chris Hibbert, who also lives nearby, said: “I was actually shocked as nothing ever happens like this in Cellardyke and Anstruther.

“There was a person in his house throwing glass bottles, pans and toasters.”

Stagecoach East Scotland buses were disrupted due to the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson: “At around 1.40pm on Friday, officers attended at a property in the March Crescent area of Anstruther to execute a warrant.

“A 25-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
