Orange alert: wind to pick up Thursday evening in Latvia

In the evening, clouds will begin to overcast over the whole country and it will start to rain more heavily.

There will be a slow to moderate westerly, south-westerly wind, gusting to around 20 metres per second in the evening along the Kurzeme coast.

Maximum air temperature +7 C to +12 C.

In Riga, the sun will shine occasionally until mid-day, with rain in the afternoon and evening. There will be a slow to moderate westerly breeze. Maximum air temperature around +10 C.

From Thursday evening until Saturday evening, warnings issued by the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology will be in force: an orange alert for the coast and a yellow alert for the rest of the country.

Forecasts indicate that wind gusts will be up to 25-28 metres per second along the coast, while gusts will be weaker in the rest of the country, but around 20 metres per second in many places.

Such winds will cause minor damage, breaking off some trees and branches, and power line breaks are expected.
