Saturday will be the windier and rainier of the two weekend days. Rain is expected throughout the country, and thunderstorms are also expected in some places. The gusty south-southwest wind will become slower in the morning, but in the afternoon and evening the wind will pick up again, reaching 12-17 meters per second, and in places along the coast around 20 meters per second.

Maximum temperatures on Saturday afternoon will be in the range +14 Celsius to +19 Celsius, so it will still be very mild.

On Sunday, the clouds will disperse slightly, and short-term rain will fall only in places in Kurzeme and Vidzeme. The wind will shift to come from the northwest and become slower, but the weather will also become colder. Early in the morning, the temperature will drop as low as + 5 C inland, while during the day it will not be warmer than +15 C.

Temperatures will continue to drop next week, and on Monday morning frost may even be seen on the ground in many places. But during the day the temperature will rise to between +10 C and +15C, though that is likely the highest temperature to be recorded next week.

This year's meteorological summer has already matched the longest summer record set in 2004 and reached a length of 135 days, or four and a half months. Moreover, compared to 2004, 2024 has been warmer.

September is not over yet, but preliminary data show that, despite a significant drop in temperature in the last days of the month, the average temperature in Latvia in September will be 16 degrees, which is 0.2 degrees higher than the record set in September of last year. The climatic norm, or the average of the previous thirty years (1991-2020), is 12.3 degrees, but the coldest September in the history of meteorological observations was experienced in 1993, when the average temperature of the month was 8.3 degrees.
