According to Adeboye, he was wrong to have made the statement, and he admitted that it was not in the Bible.

Instead, he noted that what the Holy Book said was 'be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.'

His apology was contained in a short video posted on X by the RCCG Young Adults and Youth Affairs.

He said in the now-viral clip:

"I’m apologizing for making a mistake. For saying that If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.' I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, 'be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.

"This is why it's good to study your Bible.. All these men of God most of them are just business oriented using "in the name is Jesus" to keep increasing thier bank accounts."

@tegafej said:

"Maybe I heard something different. He is saying we should not be limited to paying 10%, we can pay more which has been said before. Giving should be done violently."

@flakkyBanky said:

"This is a good start, I hope more of those pastors that preach things outside the Bible follow suit."
