Four aircraft are being used in the attempt to control a large vegetation fire in Northland.

Twenty-five firefighters are also on the ground fighting the 100-hectare blaze, which broke out late Saturday morning in the Gumfield region between Herekino and Ahipara.

The area is remote and Fire and Emergency said there is no threat to homes or people.

It said a bulldozer had to be brought in to make the entrance to the track accessible for firefighters.

No rain is forecast for the area.
