Person killed in three-car crash in Puhoi

A person has died after a three-car crash near Puhoi this morning.

Police said a second person was seriously injured in the crash which happened shortly after 6am on Pohuehue Road in Puhoi, north of Auckland.

Two cars collided in the crash initially, police said, but a third car then crashed into the scene.

The driver of one of the two vehicles first involved died at the scene, police said.

A section of Pohuehue Road is closed while the Serious Crash Unit examine the scene.

Traffic is being diverted at the intersection with Mahurangi West Road, north of the crash scene and is being turned around at the southern end.
