A gang member and another person have been arrested after an incident involving a home-made gun, police say.

Hamilton Senior Sergeant Aimee Whitley said about 2pm on Tuesday, police responded to Masters Avenue in Hamilton.

A person who officers believed had the firearm left the scene in a vehicle, and officers searched the area, finding them further down the same street.

"A small home-made pistol, capable of firing .22 calibre rounds, was located and seized, along with 203 grams of cannabis also located in the vehicle," Whitley said.

No-one was injured, she said. But officers arrested a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from Waikato.
