No remanded protester is pregnant – Police
by MyNewsGH · MyNewsGh.comThe Ghana Police Service has disclosed that claims that one of the protesters remanded for two weeks is pregnant is a lie.
This was after two separate tests, one at the police hospital and one at a private facility, came out negative.
A statement from the Police said the lady in question, whose name is given as Gloria Vera Louise never mentioned in court or during the arrest that she was pregnant but to verify the veracity of her claim in public, they had to subject her to the two separate tests.
It will be remembered that Vera while being taken into police custody claimed she was pregnant; a claim that was confirmed by a relative who spoke to the media.
“In the case of the alleged pregnant woman, Gloria Vera Louise, We would like to clarify that at the time of the arrest, there was no visible indication that she was pregnant. Additionally, at no point during the arrest or subsequent interactions did the said suspect inform the Police of a pregnancy. Again, there was no communication to the court of any such condition, either by herself or through her lawyers.
“In order to establish the veracity or otherwise of the claim in the public domain of the alleged pregnancy, the Police took the initiative and sent her to the Police Hospital and an independent health facility for a thorough medical examination. Both medical results came out negative, suggesting that Gloria Vera Louise, is not pregnant as claimed.”

Meanwhile, an elderly woman whose name is given as Grace Asantewaa who is aged 50 was not caged but was given a self recognisance bail but has been charged for endangering the life of her daughter who is 12 years and was brought to the demonstration.
