J&K assembly elections Third Phase Polling Live: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls will wrap up Tuesday, with voting underway for the final 40 seats in the third and largest phase of the elections. A voter turnout of 44.08 per cent was recorded as of 1 pm. In contrast to the first two phases, the bulk of the seats in the third — 24 seats — are in the Jammu division, while 16 are in Kashmir. Results will be announced on October 8.

Which prominent seats go to vote today? The 16 assembly segments in three border districts of north Kashmir will vote amid tight security today. After eight Scheduled Tribe-reserved seats voted in the first two phases, the last ST seat – Gurez – will vote in this phase. It will also see all of J&K’s seven Scheduled Caste-reserved seats – Akhnoor, Bishnah, Kathua, Marh, Ramgarh, Ramnagar, and Suchetgarh – vote. All seven are located in the Jammu division.

Voter turnout in Phase 1 and 2: According to the Election Commission, the second phase of the J&K polls on Wednesday (September 25) recorded a voter turnout of 57.31 per cent — lower than the phase one turnout of 61.38 per cent and the 2014 overall turnout of 65.52 per cent. In the first phase of polling on September 18 in 24 constituencies, the EC recorded a turnout of 61.38 per cent

J&K assembly elections Live: Voter turnout close to 44.1% at 1 pm, here's the breakdown

A voter turnout of 44.08 per cent was recorded as of 1 pm this afternoon. Polling is underway till 6 pm Tuesday.

Udhampur district recorded the highest turnout of 51.66 per cent, while the lowest turnout was seen in Baramulla with 36.6 per cent.

J&K assembly elections Live: Here's how J-K is voting in the third and largest phase of Assembly polls

A voter turnout of 28.12 per cent was recorded till 11 am in the final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir polls, the EC said.

Udhampur district recorded the highest turnout of 33.84 per cent, followed by 31.78 per cent in Kathua, 31.50 per cent in Samba, 28.04 per cent in Bandipora, 27.34 per cent in Kupwara, 27.15 per cent in Jammu and 23.20 per cent in Baramulla.

Among the constituencies, Bani in Kathua district was leading with 34.92 per cent polling recorded in the first four hours. Sopore segment, once a terrorist and separatist stronghold, recorded the lowest turnout of 17.28 per cent, the EC data showed.

J&K assembly elections Live: What are the security arrangements in place in J-K for voting today

Election Commission officials said a comprehensive security strategy has been implemented at each polling station to ensure peaceful voting.

To facilitate voter participation, the Election Commission has set up 5,060 polling stations and ensured 100 per cent webcasting across all constituencies. Of the total, 974 are urban polling stations and 4,086 are rural.

Polling is scheduled to conclude at 6 pm.

In the 2014 Assembly elections, these third phase seats were where the BJP performed best. Its 18 seats made it the clear leader, followed by the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP in seven seats, the Farooq Abdullah-led NC in five, and the Congress, Independents, and Sajad Lone-led PC in two seats each. These seats, mostly concentrated in Jammu, were crucial towards the BJP winning a total 25 seats across the erstwhile state and forming a coalition government with the PDP.

Over 3.9 million voters across seven districts are eligible to vote in this phase, as per the Election Commission.
