Amid ongoing differences among the opposition Congress and Shiv Sena UBT, Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting of party leaders to discuss seat sharing for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Where the parties stand on seat-sharing? Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray met Congress’s Ramesh Chennithala to discuss and resolve seat sharing issues. The MVA claims to have reached a consensus for 260 Assembly seats. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has taken the lead by announcing its candidates on five seats in Maharashtra at different public meetings in the state.

Mumbai News Live: Need to introspect if political fragmentation affects people's welfare says Narayan Rane

Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, former chief minister Narayan Rane has said the need of the hour is to introspect if the fragmented political scenario in the state is conducive to people's welfare and their interests.

The repeated change in ideology and even constituency impacts the state's economy and the fiscal deficit is growing, BJP leader Rane told PTI here on Saturday while coming down heavily on Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former CM Uddhav Thackeray.

Rane feels the ruling Mahayuti (comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar's NCP) has an edge in the assembly polls, scheduled on November 20, due to BJP's strong leadership at the Centre.

Notably, the Shiv Sena split after a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde in June 2022. Shinde then joined hands with the BJP to form government.

Mumbai News Live: Maharashtra poll schedule is BJP's ploy to limit MVA's time for govt formation says Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged that the Election Commission's Maharashtra poll schedule, which gives only 48 hours for government formation, is the BJP's ploy to ensure the MVA is unable to stake a claim.

The current assembly's term ends on November 26. The state will go to polls on November 20, and the votes will be counted on November 23.

Speaking to reporters, the Rajya Sabha MP alleged, "The BJP with Amit Shah seems to have accepted that the party would not win the Maharashtra assembly polls. There appears to be a strategy to limit the time available for the Maha Vikas Aghadi to discuss and decide about government formation. If the MVA constituents fail to stake a claim, the governor will recommend the President's Rule for six months." He claimed the BJP was taking proactive steps to keep the MVA from returning to power."

Additionally, the ECI has scheduled the polls in such a way that it restricts the MVA's opportunity to form a government effectively," he said.
