Love Island stars Joey Essex and Jessy Potts have split up seven weeks after leaving the villa.

The duo had a rollercoaster time in the ITV2 show, with many claiming they wouldn't last in the outside world. They were even dubbed the 'least compatible' before getting kicked out of the villa. Since leaving the show, the loved-up couple haven't been seen together much with Joey previously heading out to Ibiza while Jessy stayed back in Essex. And now, TOWIE legend Joey and Jessy announced they parted ways.

With the two spending so much time apart, many claimed they had a "showmance". Last month, Joey insisted that the two were in it for the long haul and had already "spoken about kids".

"We both want a big family. But we're having a bit of a tiff at the moment. She wants four, I want eight. Imagine how great that would be? I'm ready. I'd do it tomorrow. Maybe even tonight," he recently said. But now, it looks like the two decided it was best to remain friends.

"Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship but I hope we can continue to be friends," Joey said. "I truly wish Jessy the very best with whatever she does in the future." Jessy added to The Sun that she 'appreciated' the experience she had with Joey in the villa, with the two 'trying to make it work but it wasn't meant to be'.

"I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us and look forward to all of the exciting opportunities ahead," she said. After leaving the show, Joey was marred by claims he was "faking" his affection for Jessy and was too engrossed in playing the game.

Speaking to OK! last month, Joey claimed they were 'very genuine'. He said: "If anyone focused on just me and Jessy as a couple, and not all the other drama, you'd see we were very genuine in the villa.

"From the minute I met Jessy, I never looked any other way. There were no red flags with each other. We were tested the most out of everyone, but we came through it. We took our time, had fun and enjoyed each other's company. We weren't jumping to make decisions because the next bombshell was coming in, or because it was Casa Amor, we did things our way. We played it correctly. We weren't in it to win it. We just wanted to be together."
