Man, 30s, arrested in connection with fatal assault at a hotel in Laois

Shortly before 8pm on Tuesday evening, Gardaí were alerted to an incident at a hotel in north county Laois where a man in his 60s was found dead.
Gardaí were dispatched to the scene and a man, aged in his 30s, was arrested. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.

In a statement, gardai said that the services of the Garda Technical Bureau and Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Portlaoise Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will be appointed to support the family of the deceased.
Gardai say that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that officers are probing "all the circumstances" surrounding the man's death.
