Toddler walks out of her family home after bedtime and is killed in horror car crash

Emergency services were called to reports of a "car versus pedestrian crash" which saw the two-year-old girl struck on a road near her home

A toddler who "got out of her bed and walked out of the house" was fatally struck by a car.

The two-year-old girl was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save her following the crash. It is believed she was put to bed, but somehow, unbeknown to her parents, managed to get out of her family home on Friday night.

A Volkswagen Jetta, being driven by a 38-year-old man, collided into her moments later in Allen Township, Michigan, where police were called to reports of a "car versus pedestrian crash". Police are now investigating the crash.

The police force, which hasn't released the man's name to the media, do not believe alcohol and drugs were a factor. Officers have not yet stated whether the man will face any charges in relation to the child's death. An autopsy will be performed on the little girl. The probe continues in Michigan.

It comes after a baby miraculously dodged death after the car in which she was travelling collided with another in Shotton Colliery, County Durham. The driver of the other car, Kyle Zelinka, 23, had downed bottles of lager, whisky, and used cocaine before the horror crash.

Durham Crown Court heard that Zelinka failed to "give way" at a junction and drove straight into the path of a Nissan Juke. However, the motorist was jailed for 14 months on Monday. A judge said Zelinka was "travelling at a reckless speed approaching that junction".
