A four year old girl with a "beautiful soul" has tragically died after falling from her apartment window. Little Mi'layah Marie was playing a game, jumping on her bed near an open window in her Shoreline, Washington State flat, when she lost her balance and fell.

The screen meant to protect her gave way, leading to her devastating fall. A by-passer sprang into action, attempting CPR before the child was rushed to hospital last Sunday, but sadly, she could not be saved.

Her heartbroken mum, Najaha Chancellor, said: "She has a beautiful soul. And I'm just never, none of us are going to get that back."

Grieving for her loss, she added, "As a mother, it's your job. It's your job to protect your children at all costs. I'm just trying to keep it together as any mother would try to do. I still have three other kids to show I have to be strong for. So crying is going to make kids even more emotional."

Chancellor added: "I'm never ever going to get over this because it's different when it's your child that you lose. It's absolutely different."

Describing Mi'layah's impact on those around her, she expressed: "She just made everyone happy, it didn't matter who it was. Everyone just loved her, cared about her."

Reminiscing her daughter's joys, she spoke of Mi'layah's simple pleasures: "She adored the simple things in life, like her favourite fruit, bananas, and her love for the water. Swimming was one of her greatest joys; she loved splashing around and enjoying the freedom the water gave her."

"Mi'layah was smart, playful, and beautiful, and her memory will forever be a part of our family. I love you Mi'layah Marie unique hardy you were my world baby girl I'm still so speechless right now I can't find the words to gather and say almost a week of no food barely any rest I wake up the same time everyday and I'm back up the whole entire day. I just wish back in time was a thing," she told KIRO.

The Medical Examiner confirmed that the girl died from blunt force trauma caused by the fall, reports the Mirror.

Witness Andre Alexander added: "I went around the back after I heard someone screaming. When I went back there, I saw the young lady, the little girl had fallen out the window."

"There's a young man who's a real hero. This young man did over four and a half minutes of CPR by himself."
