The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The road remains closed this morning to allow for a full technical examination to take place. Local diversions have been put in place for motorists.

Gardai have now issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly those who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident, to make contact with authorities.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Anyone who was travelling along the R571 road in the Eyries area between 1am and 6am on Friday, October 25, 2024, including persons with dash-cam or mobile phone footage, are asked to contact the Bantry Garda Station on 027 20860, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
