Met Eireann issues Status Yellow Rain warning for six counties

Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow Rain alerts for six counties warning an onslaught of rain will pour down for hours.

The national forecaster issued two Status Yellow rain warnings, one for Cork and Kerry, and a separate warning for Clare, Limerick, Galway and Mayo.

Issuing the alerts, Met Éireann warned of localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility for the counties throughout the duration of the weather warnings.

Status Yellow Rain warning for Cork and Kerry is valid from 3pm on Thursday until 1pm on Friday, while the Status Yellow Rain warning for Clare, Limerick, Galway and Mayo will be in effect from 3pm Thursday until 3am on Friday.

Overall, Met Éireann have said the coming days will be unsettled with rain at times but temperatures will be near or above normal for this time of year.

A spokesperson said: “Rain will slowly move into other western and southwestern areas tomorrow morning and early afternoon, becoming heavy at times.

“It'll hold largely dry elsewhere for much of the day, apart from some patches of light rain, drizzle and mist, mainly in southern parts.

“The rain will gradually start to spread further eastwards through later in the day, with further heavy falls and localised flooding in the west and southwest.

“Highest temperatures of 13C to 16C with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, generally easing through the afternoon but increasing fresh to strong northerly later in western coastal parts.

“Thursday night will be wet and breezy with widespread rain. The rain will be heaviest in Munster and Leinster and may cause localised flooding.

“Northerly winds will be mostly moderate to fresh and gusty but will become strong in Munster. Lowest temperatures range between 9C in the northwest and 14C in the southeast.

“Becoming dry in the northwest on Friday, but remaining unsettled with rain across the rest of the country. The rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the south and may cause localised flooding. Highest temperatures of 11C to 16C with moderate to fresh and gusty northerly winds, strong during the morning in Munster.

“Rain will clear on Friday night and it will become largely dry with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 10C with light and variable winds.”
