A man was rushed to hospital following an alleged collision involving a speedboat and a ferry in Cork Harbour early this morning.

The incident, which happened around 7.15am on Saturday (October 19), resulted in significant damage to the cruiser, while one person on board was rushed to hospital by a family member to be treated for injuries sustained in the collision.

The Coast Guard were alerted at approximately 8am and members of Crosshaven RNLI were dispatched immediately. They arrived on the scene at Monkstown Marina within minutes to find the casualty vessel had already been towed to safety.

Friends of the cruiser's owner explained what had happened and asked for help in bringing the vessel to a trailer at Paddy's Point in Ringaskidy. Due to heavy marine traffic in the harbour at the time, the RNLI crew decided it was safest to bring the boat inland and transport it by road.

Two volunteers went to help with the speedboats return before heading back to the Crosshaven station. The RNLI lifeboat was washed down, refuelled and declared ready for service at 11am.

Four people were on board the lifeboat during today's callout - Alan Venner, Kline Pennefather, Conor Barry and Holly Fegan, reports Cork Beo.

The six shore crew were Gary Heslin, Moira Kavanagh, Richie Leonard, Jennifer Grey, Michael Livingstone and Darryl Hughes. Volunteers James Fegan and David Venner helped transport the lifeboat by road, and Hugh Tully acted as Launch Authority.

The lifeboat was washed down, refuelled and declared ready for service once more at 11am.
