Match of the Day star Gary Lineker's teenage nephew has died after being crushed by a falling trunk, an inquest heard.

The 18-year-old died following a crush injury to his abdomen while working on September 6, senior coroner Darren Slater said opening the inquest last week. Oxford Coroner's Court heard the teen was killed by a falling tree in Eaton Hastings, Oxon.

Jonty, who was born in July 2006, was called "one of the nicest boys you'll ever meet" by cousin George Lineker, 31, in a tribute shared on social media. He shared a picture of himself with Jonty when he was younger with a caption that read: "One of the nicest boys you'll meet, taken far too soon. Fly high cousin, you'll be missed by all."

Tobias Lineker, 28, posted an old picture of the teen smiling and added: "Taken from us far too soon, rest in peace little cousin." The family business, Sue Parkinson, took to their Instagram page to share the tragic news of his death in a post last week. They said: "We are devastated to have to share the news that Jonty Parkinson - Bob & Ali’s son, Sue & John’s grandson and Sally’s nephew - passed away on Friday 6th September.

A GoFundMe page was also set up in memory of Jonty, to help the family 'create a beautiful memorial or event to celebrate the life of their much-loved son Jonty." The description went on to call him a "very special" and "beautiful young man" and explained: "I realise money can’t fill the great chasm of loss they are feeling, but I hope it can be used to ease the burden of funeral expenses or go towards a fitting memorial for Jonty."

The fundraiser has raised £32,000 so far. Jonty was the nephew of Match of the Day star Gary, 63, from his marriage to first wife Michelle Cockayne - with who he shares four children. Jonty's mum Ali - who is the former partner of rugby legend Will Carling - is the sister of Michelle.
