Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman secured a new “baby boost” that will see parents receive a treble Child Benefit payment in the first month of a newborn’s life.

He had fought for a quadruple payment but this was considered unlikely following news of the “double double” Child Benefit payment.

One source described the proposal as “dead in the water” on Sunday night, only for Mr O’Gorman to seal the deal on Monday evening.
