Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left bemused by the choice of dance given to celebrity contestant Nick Knowles, with some branding it a "stitch up".

The beloved ballroom show returned to our screens on Saturday evening (October 12), hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. DIY SOS frontman Nick and his professional partner Luba Mushtuk re-joined the fray after a weeks absence after Nick suffered a knee injury and had to miss last week's show, reports the Mirror.

Despite being side-lined last week, Nick had assured his supporters that he would make a comeback to the dance floor. However, upon his vigorous return, the decision to assign him the Charleston, a dance known for its dynamic pace and complex steps, raised eyebrows among viewers.

Concerned about whether Nick could handle the physically demanding routine post-injury, fans expressed their unease across social media. One distressed fan posted on Twitter: "Only #Strictly can give out a #Charleston to Nick with a bad knee. Ridiculous."

Another shared their mixed feelings: "Glad to see Nick made it back but because of the injury the reworked choreography made for a lacklustre Charleston. What he could dance he did well." Meanwhile, a third commented: "Of all the dances to give Nick Knowles after coming back from a knee injury... a Charleston."

Lastly, one viewer both praised and empathised with Nick's predicament: "You can really tell Nick is still on the painkillers, he's still injured clearly and not wanting to really go for it. Good effort, just needed him to totally go for it which I'm not sure he was able to."
