Man detained after concern for welfare incident closes A38 at Ivybridge

A man was detained under the Mental Health Act after police were called to a concern for welfare incident on the A38. The road was closed at Ivybridge for over an hour this morning (Friday, October 18).

Police were called to the scene at around 6.50am and closed the road in both directions. The man was detained and left in the care of health professionals.

There was gridlock on the A38 as motorists were trapped in the closure during rush hour. The road reopened by 8.20am and traffic returned to normal.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 6.50am today, Friday 18 October following a concern for a welfare for a man on the A38 at Ermington, Ivybridge.

"A road closure was put in place. Emergency services attended and the man was detained under the Mental Health Act. He was left in the care of health professionals. The carriageway reopened by 8.20am."
