Sir David Jason's long-lost daughter shared 'worried' admission in first letter to dad

Only Fools and Horses star Sir David Jason was left stunned when he received a letter from his long-lost daughter Abi Harris

Sir David Jason was left stunned after receiving a heartfelt letter from Abi Harris, a woman claiming to be his long-lost daughter. In the emotional letter, Abi apologised for reaching out, saying she was "so sorry" as she revealed her quest to uncover the truth about her parentage.

The 53 year old explained that she had been grappling with the uncertainty surrounding her paternity and was desperate to learn the identity of her biological father. However, she was also mindful of the potential impact on her late father and her mother, Jennifer Hill, and didn't want to cause any unnecessary guilt or betrayal.

Abi asked Sir David if he would be willing to take an anonymous paternity test, explaining: "For considerable time, I have wrestled with the unsettling discovery that my paternity is uncertain."

"I don't want my mum to feel guilty. I didn't want to 'betray' my late father and I have worried endlessly about how on earth to approach you. However, I would really like to know."

She added: "Please would you agree to take an anonymous paternity test so that I can finally know the truth and let the matter rest. Obviously, this remains entirely between you and me.", reports the Express.

Sir David, 84, described the letter as the "most astonishing" he had ever received, revealing that he had a brief relationship with Abi's mother while filming Under Milk Wood in 1973. The DNA test results were conclusive: Sir David was indeed Abi's biological father, a revelation that necessitated the difficult conversation with his wife, Lady Gill White, and daughter Sophie about his newfound daughter and her son Charlie.

Yet, according to Sir David, his family received the news with nothing but warmth. In a 2023 interview with The Mirror, he expressed his family's reaction: "My wife, Gill, and daughter, Sophie, have been very supportive and understanding and have embraced Abi and welcomed her and her young son into her now wider family."

Abi's suspicions about her paternity began when she noticed similarities between herself and Sir David, particularly their noses, after learning about his past relationship with her mother. Sir David acknowledged the shock of the discovery, saying: "To say it was a surprise to find out I had a daughter from years ago is an understatement.

He went on to share his contentment with the situation, stating: "However, on settling with the news, I am delighted that I am now able to get to know Abi and so we meet up when we can."

Abi, who has followed in Sir David's acting footsteps, often spends time at his Ellesborough home in Buckinghamshire. It's reported that Sir David enjoys introducing his grandson Charlie to his passion for model rockets in his workshop.
