A person was stuck trapped inside their vehicle after it crashed into a ditch in Devon. The vehicle was left upside down in the ditch at Lympstone following the collision, which came just before 6pm on Monday, November 11.

Emergency services were called to Wooton Lane, where a vehicle had crashed upside down into a ditch. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said one person had been freed from the vehicle before crews arrived, while another was trapped inside.

After firefighters broke through to rescue the remaining trapped person, they were both taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment, the fire service said in a statement.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire Control received a call from Police to assist them at a road traffic collision. Fire Crews from Exmouth and Middlemoor, Exeter were sent to the location, along with an Officer.

"On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a road traffic collision where the vehicle was upside down in a ditch. One person had been released prior to the arrival of the Fire Service.

"Crews requested a third fire engine to attend for extra personnel. Fire Crews worked alongside Ambulance Paramedics and the Police to formulate a plan to extricate the person still within the vehicle.

"Crews used a triple extension ladder, 2 general purpose lines, stabilisation equipment, small tools, lighting and a stretcher to remove the casualty from the vehicle.

"The casualties were conveyed to hospital by Ambulance and duty of care of the scene was left with the Police." The road reopened at around 2am on Tuesday.
