The Netflix sensation Nobody Wants This continues to captivate audiences, with the dynamic between Joanne (portrayed by Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) being a particular highlight. The comedy-drama charts the pair's journey through uncharted romantic waters.

Erin Foster drew from her personal romance with music executive husband Simon Tikhman for the show's inspiration, calling it a "love letter" to their union.

On her podcast, Foster shared insights into her creative process, revealing that she modelled Noah on her spouse to embody traits like being "emotionally available, chivalrous, old-fashioned ... but also really funny and confident". She noted the importance of Noah having "rizz", slang for "charisma".

Noah's character also mirrors Tikhman's life, as the offspring of Jewish Russian immigrants.

Foster reflected on their differing backgrounds: "We didn't come from similar backgrounds," she remarked. "He came from a much more traditional place. I came from a more unconventional place. When we got together we were like, 'How's this gonna work?"

The couple's love story began at a gym in Los Angeles in 2018, leading to an engagement in 2019 and marriage during a New Year's Eve celebration that same year.

They celebrated the arrival of their first child, a daughter, in May.

In the series, Joanne grapples with the decision to convert to Judaism to gain the acceptance of Noah's family.

Mirroring the fiction, Erin embraced Judaism before marrying Tikhman, and upon her manager's suggestion, she decided to craft a show based on her experiences.

In a side-splitting episode, Joanne develops the "ick" after Noah presents her mother with sunflowers, an event she admits occurred in real life.

Once her soon-to-be husband showed up to greet her mother equipped with a massive bunch of sunflowers, Joanne became unnerved.

She interpreted such considerate behaviour as a token of "weakness".

Following its success, the show was commissioned for another series in October 2024. Foster expressed her gratitude, remarking: "I'm so lucky to be able to continue this story and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I've been such a fan of since Girls. ... Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!".

Adam Brody, who plays Noah, hinted that the new season might explore whether Noah's professional concessions were justified.

Speaking to Tudum, he pondered: "What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it?".

He continued to question: "What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It's a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you're better for it - you don't have to [lop] off a limb."
