Man taken to hospital after car crashes into building in Tiverton

A man has been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a building in Devon yesterday, Tuesday, October 22. Emergency services were called to the scene on Siddalls Gardens in Tiverton around 6.10pm.

A car crashed through a wall of a brick building, police have said. A man is his was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

He was later dearrested and taken to hospital with minor injuries. Pictures taken at the scene show the car had smashed through a brick building leaving a large hole in the side of the wall.

At the time of the crash, an eyewitness told DevonLive: "Recovery has just arrived to take the vehicle. It's a building alongside the pitch of Amory Park and along the car park and road."

The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services were at the scene. The closure was later handed over to Highways.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called by the ambulance service at around 6.10pm on Tuesday 22 October following reports of a vehicle crashing through a wall and into a building at Siddalls Gardens in Tiverton.

"The driver, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.

"He was then dearrested and taken to hospital. His injuries are believed to be minor.

"The road closure was handed over to highways."
