From Netherlands: Ruud van Nistelrooy ‘open to’ replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Manchester United have only two wins in their last seven matches in all competitions and three in total since the start of the season.

The Red Devils’ poor start has seen questions raised about Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.

According to Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen, Ten Hag’s assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy could replace him at Manchester United.

Driessen was one of the guests on Vandaag Inside, where they discussed Manchester United’s situation under the former Ajax manager. Voetbal Primeur have relayed his comments.

Van Nistelrooy started his coaching career as the Netherlands assistant manager in 2020. He then managed PSV Eindhoven U18s and U21s for two years before being promoted to their first team manager in 2022.

The former Manchester United striker left PSV in 2023 and returned to management as Ten Hag’s assistant in the summer. Driessen cbelieves Van Nistelrooy is ready to take his compatriot’s job at the Premier League side.

“I think Nistelrooy is open to it. And that could be possible, because the dream candidate is of course not there. Van Nistelrooy comes from the club and is already well regarded by the players. Someone who has played football at the top, also at United,” he said.

The latest claims in the UK have stated Ten Hag has two matches, against FC Porto [in the Europa League on Thursday] and Aston Villa [at the weekend], to save his job.
