Contact initiated to sign Arsenal player – Gunners fighting transfer off, Arteta dead against it

Palmeiras have made an approach to sign Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, according to Globo Esporte.

They state the Brazilian club contacted the Gunners in ‘recent days’, to find out if there was a possibility to sign the forward.

Jesus is mainly used as a substitute this season, clocking in 19 minutes from four Premier League games for Arsenal. He has two appearances in the Champions League and one in the EFL Cup.

Despite the limited role, the report says the 27-year-old is an ‘important’ player for Mikel Arteta.

Therefore, Arsenal’s leaders were ‘categorical’ with their response to the Palmeiras board, to not negotiate a deal for Jesus.

The Brazil international spent four years at Palmeiras before arriving at Manchester City in 2017. He then made a switch to the Emirates in July 2022.

Globo point out the player has a good relationship with his former club. Within the South American club, there’s belief he will return to the club, but not in the near future.

This report is backed up by UOL, who then state Arsenal have ‘completely ruled out’ the possibility of transferring the forward.

In addition to this, Jesus is also not in favour of returning to Brazil. His contract at Arsenal lasts until 2027 and UOL say he wants to fulfil it.
