Emergency services called to Benfield School over kitchen fire

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service dispatched two crews to Benfield School in Walker, with the first on the scene in four minutes

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they responded to a fire at Benfield School just after lunchtime on Thursday. No injuries were reported in the fire, which began in the kitchen area shortly after 1pm.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that on Thursday afternoon 17th October, two crews from Byker and Wallsend Community Fire Stations were in attendance of a fire at a school in Walker, Newcastle.

"The emergency call was received by our control team from the school at 1.18 pm, and the first appliance was on-scene within four minutes. The fire which was concentrated in the kitchen area had already been extinguished, and our crews assisted the school in clearing the smoke from the building.

"All persons were accounted for with no injuries reported. The firefighters left the scene at 1.57 pm once the smoke had cleared."
