Map shows areas to be hit by tornado as UK weather warning issued

A tornado warning has been issued for two regions of the UK as Brits are braced for a deluge of thunder and lightning, hail and 50mph winds with a new weather system from the Atlantic

As Brits brace themselves, a weather map has detailed areas under an imminent tornado warning, with the prospect of hail and lightning also looming. According to the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TSRO), South West England, central south England, South East England, the south Midlands, some regions in East Anglia, and the Channel Islands are all poised to contend with treacherous conditions tonight.

The TSRO warns of hazards that may include gusty winds reaching up to 50mph, isolated tornadoes, sporadic lightning strikes, and hailstorms. "Gusty winds, hail (perhaps up to 1cm diameter), and occasional CG lightning may accompany the stronger cores," warned the TSRO.

"Additionally, isolated tornadoes are possible, especially if any mesolows [a small area where high winds could be present] form. Any such mesolows would produce a more focussed risk corridor for gusty winds and occasional tornadoes."

These alerts come as storm clouds pushed by the Atlantic are set to roll into the southwest and sweep across the nation during the evening. Echoing the concern, the Met Office cautions that the UK is on the cusp of an "unsettled period", with ex-Hurricane Kirk threatening to strike parts of Europe from the middle of the week onwards, potentially causing disruptive weather patterns.

In its forecast, the Met Office anticipates a mix of sunshine and rain for Monday and Tuesday—the most severe downpours likely hitting western areas, while the east may experience drier spells. It seems the rough weather spells are set to persist through the remainder of the week, raising the spectre of more unsettling rain and wind conditions, reports the Mirror.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Chris Bulmer has revealed: "Kirk over the North Atlantic will lose its status as a hurricane early next week before being swept towards northwest Europe. The resulting low pressure system will still have the potential to bring disruptive rain and winds to some areas, including parts of the UK, from the middle of next week."

He added, "There remains much detail to work out on the exact track and timing of the system. Across the UK, parts of England and Wales look to have the greatest risk of heavy rain and strong winds during Wednesday and Thursday.

Bulmer also noted: "However, a more southward track of this system, which is equally plausible at this stage, would see the most disruptive conditions impact France. The need for warnings will be kept under review over the coming days, so it's important to stay up to date with the latest forecast."
