Police received a report that overnight on Tuesday, September 24, into Wednesday, September 25, an unknown man punched and sexually assaulted a woman inside a home.

It was reported the offender knocked on the door and when answered, forced his way inside. The woman was able to fight him off before he fled the scene.

Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since the report was first made and Northumbria Police officers continue to appeal to the public for information.

They would also like to speak to people who were in the Woodhorn Road area of Ashington between 11.45pm on Tuesday, September 24 and 2.20am the next day and witnessed anyone acting suspiciously.

Officers have released images of a man who like they would like to speak to in relation to the report. He was in the area at the time and officers believe he may be able to assist with their enquiries.
