Joseph Gray

This teenager left a man with life-threatening injuries by stabbing him in the stomach in Newcastle city centre.
Joseph Gray had been drinking when he gathered near the Civic Centre to socialise with others. The victim said their loud behaviour was upsetting his dog and approached the teen, who mocked the way he spoke.
Newcastle Crown Court witnesses said the man uttered a threat and Gray then took out a small pocket knife which he had been carrying routinely and plunged it into his stomach. The victim suffered heavy internal bleeding, collapsed, needed emergency surgery and his injury has had a huge impact on his life.
Gray, 19, of Brierdene Crescent, Whitley Bay, was cleared of wounding with intent by a jury but admitted unlawful wounding and possessing an offensive weapon. He was sent to a young offenders institution for 21 months.

Ben Bostock and Keiren Patterson

Ben Bostock, 22, and Keiren Patterson, 21, knocked on the door of a family home in Blyth and asked for a "tab" from a young man who answered. But when the lad politely asked them to leave, Bostock smashed a bottle over his head.
When the young man's parents heard the commotion, they got out of bed and went outside. It was then that the incident descended into further violence. Bostock stabbed the mother in the abdomen with a knife and Patterson hit the father with a fence post, breaking his wrist.
The ordeal, which lasted around six minutes, left all three members of the family with injuries before the two attackers fled. Bostock and Patterson, both of no fixed address, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via link from HMP Durham and were jailed.
