Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has taken on a new challenge as Red Bull's global head of soccer. The 57 year old German, who left Anfield last summer after a trophy-laden near-decade, will start his new role on January 1, overseeing Red Bull's football clubs.

A statement from Red Bull detailed: "In his strategic role, Jurgen Klopp will not be involved in the clubs’ day-to-day operations but will focus on supporting the sports directors in advancing the Red Bull philosophy."

It also mentioned that Klopp would "leverage his extensive network to aid in scouting top talent and contribute to the training and development of coaches."

Klopp, reportedly with a clause in his contract allowing for a potential future role as Germany's manager, expressed enthusiasm about his mentoring position: "After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this," he said. He added, "The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not."

Klopp aims to use his expertise at Red Bull to nurture football talent: "By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal. " He sees opportunities for growth by drawing from Red Bull's resources and other industries: "There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries "Together we can discover what is possible.

"I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more."

Red Bull has a strong sports portfolio, boasting ownership of the German team RB Leipzig, Austria's Red Bull Salzburg, MLS's New York Red Bulls, and Brazil's Red Bull Bragantino and Red Bull Brasil. Additionally, they have begun a new chapter with Leeds after securing a minority stake in the Elland Road outfit, now emblazoned with their brand as shirt sponsors.
