Two Brits found dead in separate Crete hotel rooms as police probe sudden deaths

by · ChronicleLive

Two Brits have been tragically found dead in their hotel rooms in Crete. The bodies of a 71-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man were discovered in separate hotel rooms in Hersonissos, a town popular with British tourists on the Greek island of Crete.

Both British nationals were found on Wednesday, with police currently treating the deaths as unrelated, according to Greek media reports. In the case of the 71 year old woman, her son discovered her unresponsive in their hotel room.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after he alerted hotel staff, but she was sadly declared dead at the scene. Just hours later, a British man was also found dead in a different hotel in the same town.

He was transported to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival. Both Brits are believed to have had previous health issues, with autopsies currently being conducted to shed "light" on both cases, say Greek police.

This comes a day after a British man died after encountering difficulties while diving off the coast of Majorca with four friends. Local reports describe the man as Scottish and aged 49, reports the Mirror.

He began experiencing trouble in the water around 11am at Cala d'Or - a resort area on the southeast coast of the holiday island. His four dive companions, believed to be friends, reportedly helped him out of the water.

Efforts to resuscitate the man began immediately, with medical emergency responders taking over once he was brought ashore. Despite their best efforts, the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The Civil Guard has initiated a standard investigation into the incident. Attempts to reach the police force for comment were unsuccessful.

It remains unclear whether the deceased was a holidaymaker or a resident of Majorca.
