'Do not eat' allergy warning issued for 16 products in urgent food recall update

The Food Standards Agency is continuing its investigation with peanut allergy sufferers advised to avoid all products containing mustard

Several more spice products have been pulled from the shelves due to a serious allergy risk as part of an ongoing investigation into contaminated ingredients.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a series of alerts over the past month for dozens of products that may contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. The affected foods are sold under several different brand names at multiple different retailers, with tests finding that peanut was present in multiple products including dips, sauces, salads and pre-packed sandwiches.

The FSA has launched an investigation into the food supply chain of mustard ingredients which it is believed have been contaminated with peanuts. The agency is continuing to advise anyone with a peanut allergy to avoid eating any foods that contain or may contain mustard, mustard powder or mustard flour as work continues to identify the affected products.

The FSA advises anyone with a peanut allergy to read this latest update in conjunction with its alert issued on October 10, which includes the full list of more than 120 recalled products so far. Anyone who experiences an allergic reaction from a product that they believe could be linked to the investigation is encouraged to report it to the food business who supplied it and to the local authority where it was purchased.

The agency said in an update on Thursday: "As a result of extensive and ongoing investigations, the food business FGS Ingredients Limited who import mustard to manufacture spice products including curry powders, seasonings and spice blends from India, have undertaken a precautionary withdrawal and recall of all products containing mustard.

"These spices and blends are also used in products such as ready meals and snacks and we expect to issue a wide range of recalls in the coming days. Although the investigation continues, we can confirm it is only these products supplied by FGS Ingredients Limited which have been affected and not all mustard imports from India."

The FSA added: "We continue to advise people with a peanut allergy to avoid eating any food containing mustard ingredients until all recalls have been issued and we will provide an update on this advice when it changes."
