Six dead, five others injured in Ibadan auto crash

In a tragic incident that occurred early Monday morning, six persons have reportedly been killed while five others sustained serious injuries in an auto crash that happened in Amuloko area of Ibadan.

According to an eyewitness, the accident involved two trucks, a tricycle and one commercial motorcycle popularly called Okada.

Sources at the scene of the accident said the accident claimed six persons while injuring five others in two tricycles.

Among the injured was a pupil whose mother reportedly died in the crash.

It was learnt that the accident was caused by a trailer that lost control while trying to descend a sloppy part of the road.

“The trailer was coming down the slope when its brake system failed. Another truck coming behind was trying to avoid a collision and crashed into a tricycle which was conveying some students and other passengers.

“Before help could come, some of the passengers had died while some were injured,” sources at the scene narrated.

The injured victims, including two school children, were rushed to Amuloko City Hospital for treatment.

A member of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency (OYRTMA), who was not authorized to speak noted that the accident happened early in the morning on Monday.

He confirmed that the accident was caused by the trailer which lost control while descending a slope. The trailer crushed a tricycle and a truck.

He said six people died and five others were injured.

Confirming the incident, the Managing Director of the Amuloko City Hospital, Raji Wale noted that some of the victims were rushed to his hospital.

Wale said, “Four patients were taken to his hospital. The accident occurred in the early hours of today ( Monday). Six victims were brought here with varying degrees of injury. Some were taken to other hospitals. We were able to absorb the ones brought here. Two have been treated as out-patient victims and they have been stabilized and they have left.

“Two kids have been treated and they are downstairs. One of them, I was told, was in the Keke NAPEP with his mother. The mother died. The other two with severe injuries have been admitted and are being treated. They have been optimized and we are taking care of them presently,” He explained.

When contacted, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State through Mrs Rosemary Alo confirmed the accident. 

She, however, could not give details because she was waiting for the team sent to the scene of the accident.
