Man reportedly commits suicide inside Ogun short let hotel

A man identified as Lanre Ogungbe has reportedly committed suicide inside a short let hotel in Ogun State.

According to information available to The Eagle Online, the man took a combination of snipper and a local herbal drink to end his life.

The incident, which occurred at Authentic Hotel on Soyoye Road in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on October 10, 2024, was reported to the police by the owner, Odeyemi Adeboye, at about 3:30pm on the same day.

Adeboye lodged the report at Lafenwa Division under the Ogun State Police Command.

He said that at about 2pm on October 10, his manager raised an alarm at the hotel about 32-year-old Ogungbe, who had come to the hotel for a short rest. 

The receptionist, after noticing that the expected customer had not been seen, went to check on him and discovered his lifeless body on the bed.

She immediately notified the manager, who then alerted the hotel owner. 

A police source told The Eagle Online that they condoned off the scene, leaving the exhibits untouched before the complainant further made a formal report of the incident to the police. 

As soon as the report was received, detectives reacted swiftly, finding Ogungbe’s body on the bed alongside an empty bottle of Lakoko alcohol and another bottle of snipper, which are suspected to have been consumed by him. 

There were no signs of violence found on his body. 

His remains were evacuated to the General Hospital, Ijaye for medical examination, where he was pronounced dead and his body deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination. 

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development.

Odutola, a Superintendent of Police, said: “A thorough investigation is ongoing.”
