How Did This Happen?! 2-Year-Old Killed In Car Crash Hours After Parents Put Her To Bed For The Night

A 2-year-old girl in Michigan died on Friday after wandering onto a road outside her house. The thing was, this was hours after she was put to bed by her parents. So now cops are investigating how such a tragedy came to pass.

On Friday night, at about 8:20 p.m. local time, Michigan State Police troopers were alerted to a car accident in the city of Allen Township. In a release later posted to X (Twitter), MSP officials recalled how the first officers on scene were told it had been a “car versus a pedestrian crash.” But when they got there, the scene was so much more horrific than even that sounds.

Per MSP, troopers discovered a 2-year-old female toddler “lying in the road” on Chicago Street in Allen Township. A first responder on scene began life-saving measures immediately. From there, they quickly rushed her to local Hillsdale Hospital. But sadly, she died from her injuries.

Now, cops are looking into exactly what happened leading up her death. According to MSP Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez, who spoke to People on Wednesday, detectives are conducting “an ongoing investigation.” Thus far, that investigation has determined the child had been put to bed earlier in the night. But at some point, she got up and managed to make it out of the house and onto the street:

“Preliminary investigation shows that the child was put to bed by her parents in the home. While the parents were working around the home, the child got out of her bed and walked out of the house.”

So tragic…

Police have not released any of the names of the people involved in the awful accident, or the identities of the toddler’s parents. They only informed the media that the little girl was “struck by a 2012 VW Jetta being driven by a 38-year-old male from Allen, Michigan.” They have also determined that “alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.”

At this point, it is unclear whether the apparent circumstances of the case have detectives leaning towards it being a horrific series of events, or if the parents are on the hook for negligence of some sort.
