Five men have been injured after a car was deliberately driven at a group of people, police have said.

Officers were called to Livery Street near Birmingham city centre after 3am on Friday to reports of disorder involving a group.

West Midlands Police said it was "actively searching for the driver of the car involved", while one man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody.

According to reports, the incident happened outside Tunnel Club, one of Birmingham's longest-running nightclubs, as students were celebrating freshers' week.

An event called Aiyo It's Freshers was being held at the club on Thursday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one of those injured was treated for "multiple serious injuries".

He was taken to a major trauma centre for further treatment, it added.

The other four men were all treated by medics for potentially serious injuries and taken to hospital, the ambulance service said.
