Mary was seen grinning as she was handed a beautiful bouquet of flowers before meeting with Danish Hospital Clowns - an organisation that works to lighten the days of children who are receiving medical treatment.

Those who are part of the movement are professionals who have to undergo special training which can take up to a year-and-a-half to complete.

Mary was greeted by workers who were dressed in colourful ensembles with balloon headwear and round clown noses.

The beaming monarch appeared unfazed following the one-year anniversary of her husband King Frederik's rumoured 'affair' scandal.

Mary smiled politely as hospital employees put on a show for her at the Severin Konference hotel.

The mother-of-four put her best fashion foot forward and wore a vibrant ensemble to the occasion.

Mary sported an Erdem Lindsay Hideko Silk Floral-print Blouse that she tucked into a black belted maxi skirt, which showed off her slender figure.

Completing the look with sheer tights, Mary donned a simple black heels and a pair of gold pendant earrings.

Those who take part in the Danish Hospital Clowns training programme are taught about relationship building and neuropsychology along with how to better understand the needs of hospitalised children.

The team is built up of around 61 hospital clown members and they visit more than 30,000 children who are admitted to Denmark every year.

The clowns have also worked at several of the country's child and adolescent psychiatric departments.

Mary also met with some of the children and youths who got to meet the clowns while in hospital, along with giving a talk about the organisation onstage at the conference.
