Hamptons hotel murder twist as sugar daddy suspect kills himself
by Ruth Bashinsky For Dailymail.Com · Mail OnlineThe sugar daddy murder suspect in the slaying of a 33-year-old artist at a luxury Hamptons spa hotel has killed himself, police announced on Wednesday.
Thomas Gannon, 56, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home on Hidden Brooke Drive in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
His alleged victim Sabina Rosas was found dead inside a bedroom at the Shou Sugi Ban House in Water Mill, Suffolk County, on Monday afternoon.
Gannon is believed to have fled the $1,250-a-night hotel on Monday morning, taking a taxi to the property in Pennsylvania, around a four-hour drive from Long Island.
Rosas fiancé and her mentor confirmed to the Daily Mail that she had been in a relationship with Gannon. Suffolk County cops had indicated prior to naming the suspect that they believed Rosas' murder was a domestic incident.
Rosas, who is known under another surname as Sabina Khorramdel, was arrested in Miami last year for battery and is seen with a black eye on her mugshots.
Cops have not released a cause of death for the victim, pending an autopsy.
In a statement, Rosas heartbroken family said: 'Today, we learned of the tragic news that Thomas Gannon, the suspect in the murder of our beloved Sabina Rosas, has taken his own life.
'This news has left our family with a mix of sorrow and frustration. While we are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, we also feel a profound sense of injustice.
'Sabina deserves justice, and we were seeking accountability for her death. The loss of the suspect means we will never hear the truth about what happened to her. This outcome has robbed us of the opportunity to find closure through the legal process.
'As we navigate this painful moment, we urge the world to remember Sabina for her who she was as a person, her spirit, the important work she did and the art that she created and brought life for us.
'The fight for truth and justice continues in our hearts, and we will honor Sabina's memory as we seek to ensure that her story is never forgotten.
'Thank you for respecting our family's privacy as we cope with this profound loss.'
Rosas was born in Tajikistan and moved to the US in 2009 at the age of 17.
Shou Sugi Ban House is 'a private sanctuary and gated compound surrounded by evergreen trees and lush grasses.'
The retreat, which opened in 2019, has been featured on goop, Vogue and Conde Nast Traveler, among other luxury publications.
It offers 13 guest studios across three acres as well as 'standalone luxury residences for short-term rentals,' according to its website.
The studios, which accommodate up to to guests, offer a 'luxurious soaking tub,' modern gas fireplace, and private garden patios.
Former guests of the hotel include actress Kate Hudson and journalist Katie Couric.
DailyMail.com has reached out to the hotel for comment who are yet to make a statement on the killing.
Residents of the area told News 12 Long Island they were left shocked by the apparent murder at the high-end retreat.
'It's total shock, it's got a good reputation that place and [I've] never heard a bad thing about it. I know people who have used it,' said one local.
