A toddler who was found dead at a home in Belfast just weeks before her second birthday has been pictured for the first time. 

The body of little Tavia Michella Ximenes Da Costa was found at a property in Dungannon, County Tyrone, on Sunday morning.

Police have today released a photo of the tot after two women, aged 21 and 24, and a 29-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of her murder. 

They all currently remain in custody where they are being quizzed by murder detectives.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine the cause of Tavia's death.

Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly said: 'My thoughts, and sincere sympathy, are with little Tavia's family members and loved ones whose worlds have been turned upside down.' 

Councillor Karol McQuade said the local community had been left shocked by the 'devastating news'. 

He said: 'For a child to lose its life is an absolute tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this death. 

'It is hard to find the words when it comes to a situation like this.'

The incident took place in the Windmill Court area of the town, which is home to around 16,000 people, the BBC reported.

Deborah Erskine, the MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone said the death was a 'deeply tragic incident'.

'The death of a child is particularly shocking and my thoughts are with all those who are suffering today as a result', she said.

'It is important that the full facts surrounding this case are established and the investigation that is underway can conclude as quickly as possible.

'I would ask that the community do not speculate and allow the police to conduct their investigation.'
