Moment car bursts into huge fireball on busy high street

This is the terrifying a moment a car on a busy high street exploded into a huge fireball.

Firefighters rushed to St Mary's Square in Brixham, Devon, after being alerted to the blaze at 9.30pm on Thursday. 

Dramatic footage shows the car fire near Bombay Mix Indian with smoke billowing from the vehicle.

The video shows the car in flames following an explosion which caused sparks to fly in the air.
Shocked locals can be seen leaving from their homes and nearby businesses to see what caused the emergency response.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was caused by accidental ignition.

'On arrival the crew found the car to be well alight and used two hose reel jets, two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera, hydraulic cutters and spreaders and other small tools to extinguish the fire,' the spokesperson said.

'The cause of the fire was identified as accidental ignition, and the car was completely destroyed in the blaze.' 

Brixham Fire Station shared images on their Facebook page showing the car to be completely destroyed. 

The fire service remained at the scene until around 11.30pm when the car was removed. 

In a social media post, Brixham Fire Station said: 'Last night at approximately 9.30pm hours after our weekly drill session the pagers alerted us to a car fire in St Mary’s Square Brixham. 

'The crew arrived to heavy smoke and flames as shown in the pictures below (video in comments). 

'The fire had rapidly spread engulfing the whole vehicle. Two hose reel jets were deployed to extinguish the fire and make the vehicle safe. 

'We then waited with the vehicle for recovery until 11.30pm.'
