Ryanair flight forced to land at Stansted Airport after passenger dies

A Ryanair flight to Manchester was forced to make an emergency landing at Stansted Airport after a passenger died onboard. 

Flight RK8293, which was taking holidaymakers from Tirana, Albania, to Manchester on Sunday evening, had to make the emergency diversion as the passenger was 'having convulsions'.

Ambulance crews and medics swarmed the aircraft when it landed, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

Another passenger who was onboard the flight revealed how the man was moved into the aisle for CPR to be performed.

'He stopped breathing and everything went into chaos,' they told Manchester Evening News.

'A few of us with first aid training jumped in to help and started CPR while the defibrillator was set.'

It's understood two crew members and three passengers performed CPR for 25 minutes until the plane made an emergency landing at Stansted. 

Paramedics then took over for another half hour before all passengers were told to leave the plane.

The plane eventually took passengers to Manchester with a new crew and without the man's friends.

Flight data shows that the plane departed Tirana at 5.55pm and was due to land in Manchester around three-and-a-half hours later.

But airport officials confirmed that a flight was forced to divert to Stansted shortly before 8pm because of the emergency.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service stated: 'One ambulance, one Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle, one paramedic car and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Stansted Airport on Sunday evening following reports of man with a medical emergency on an aircraft. 

'Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man had died at the scene.'

Ryanair and Stansted Airport have been approached for comment.
