Alton Towers visitors are evacuated from theme park's Wicker Man ride

Alton Tower visitors have been evacuated from the popular Wicker Man ride for the second time in days after the fire alarm was alerted.

A smoke detector in a retail shop next to the ride was activated this morning meaning everyone within the nearby vicinity, including those queuing for the ride, were told to evacuate the area.

An Alton Towers spokesperson told MailOnline that no fire was detected and the alarm system was reset immediately.

A video posted onto social media this morning alarmed people as smoke was seen to be coming out of the ride, but this was confirmed to be an effect used to create the illusion of fog and was in no way related to the smoke alarm being set off, the theme park said.

The shop, ride and all areas have since re-opened as normal, Alton Towers said.

This is the second time this month the alarm has been triggered after park guests were also seen evacuating the ride on September 14.

A smoke detector in a retail shop next to the ride was activated this morning meaning everyone within the nearby vicinity, including those queuing for the ride, were told to evacuate the area.
