Why daughter of dentists became 'serial killer who murdered three'

by · Mail Online

A high school friend of a suspected serial killer has explained how the former straight-A student turned down a dark path that led to her alleged violent rampage.

Sabrina Kauldhar, 30, is accused of carrying out three murders from October 1 to 3, including two men police say she randomly stabbed in two separate Canadian cities.

She is now facing two first-degree murder charges and one count of second-degree murder.

But Kauldhar, the daughter of two dentists, had once been a happy and intelligent student, an unidentified high school friend told the Toronto Sun.

'I knew her in high school well, parents were both dentists,' the friend recounted. 'She was a straight-A student and very active in sports, played high-level hockey and did figure skating when she was young.'

Lance Cunningham, 47, (left) was stabbed to death in a park in Niagara Falls on October 2, the day before Mario Billich, 77, was also knifed in Hamilton

The friend went on to say Kauldhar's parents were both great people, but her mother died four years ago.

Yet Kauldhar appeared to have changed even before then, with the friend saying he believes she got mixed up with the wrong crowd in college and developed some mental health issues, which 'unfortunately led to this situation.'

'About all I can really say since it's been forever, but [she] was only ever a happy, fun person with a good head on her shoulders and all of the resources she could ask for to have been crazy successful, but clearly went down a bad path,' the friend said, noting his last interaction with Kauldhar was in 2015, when she asked him for money.

Police now say Kauldhar killed a woman in her sixties in Toronto, whose body was found last Tuesday with 'traumatic' injuries, and went on to kill Lance Cunningham, 47, who was stabbed to death in a park in Niagara Falls and Mario Bilich, 77, who was stabbed in a parking lot in Hamilton.

It is believed she knew the female victim in Toronto, but targeted Cunningham and Bilich randomly as she continued her killing spree.

Authorities say Kauldhar was caught on surveillance footage walking away from the scene of the park where Bilich was murdered

Although little has been revealed by investigators about the first alleged murder, police said Cunningham's death came after paramedics were called to John Allan Park in Niagara Falls shortly before 3pm on October 2.

Cunningham was found suffering critical injuries, and despite lifesaving efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than 24 hours later, Bilich was stabbed in a parking lot in Hamilton, and he was pronounced dead hours later at a local hospital.

Police released surveillance footage allegedly showing Kauldhar casually walking away from the scene.

Kauldhar was ultimately arrested in Burlington, Ontario, on suspicion of the first murder, before she was quickly linked to the other two deaths during the investigation by a description of a suspect at both scenes.

Niagara Regional Police Chief Bill Fordy said that 'by definition, she is a serial killer'

In a press conference following her arrest, Niagara Regional Police Chief Bill Fordy said that 'by definition, she is a serial killer.'

'We have in excess of 100 investigators trying to understand why something like this takes place, and to gather as much evidence as possible to bring the accused to court,' he said.

Fordy went on to say detectives have not established any motive for the killings, and said the investigation is in its 'early stages.'

'I think with the passage of time, we’ll have greater clarity,' he added.

Fordy also noted that the suspect previously had an 'interaction' with police, but declined to offer details.

SooToday.com, however, reports that in April 2019 a then-23-year-old Sabrina Kauldhar was arrested after she allegedly approached a vehicle near her home and began hitting the passenger.

Officers are asking the public to help identify a woman who was caught on surveillance footage from a Giant Tiger store in Burlington. It is unclear if the unidentified woman is a potential victim or accomplice

Officers are now asking the public for help identifying a woman who was caught on surveillance footage from a Giant Tiger store in Burlington before Kauldhar allegedly went on her killing spree.

The unidentified woman was reportedly seen buying clothing that was later found in Kauldhar's possession after her arrest.

It is unclear , however, whether police are treating the woman as a potential victim or accomplice.
