Emily Blunt reveals daughters' reaction to her 'mean' character

Emily Blunt admitted that her daughters thought her character in The Devil Wears Prada was 'the meanest.'

The British actress, 41 — who was recently spotted enjoying a rare family outing at the US Open — told Page Six that her daughters Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, found her role as Emily Charlton in the 2006 hit comedy-musical unlike her.

'They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,' the actress said of their response.

Her character was a temperamental and acid-tongued assistant at fashion magazine Runway.

The Golden Globe winner, who shares her children with The Office actor John Krasinski, also told the outlet she is grateful the film has a lasting impact nearly two decades since its release.

'It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people … and it’s quoted to me every week,' she said.

Blunt also shared that she and her co-stars had 'the time of our lives' shooting the film.

'At the time I was young, it was my first big movie. I remember my agent calling me and telling me about the opening weekend. I was like, "Is that good?" Like I didn’t know what was good,' she recalled.

The Devil Wears Prada follows the story of Andy (Anne Hathaway), a Northwestern grad who somehow lands a job as a junior personal assistant to Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine.

She tries to use this experience to pave the way for better journalism opportunities but has a hard time fitting in, though she proves more than up for the challenge.

Blunt's glimpse into her home life comes just weeks after the second installment of The Devil Wears Prada was confirmed to be in the works.

Disney has brought on screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the original 2006 film from the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, via Variety.

While the original cast hasn't been confirmed to return yet, the reported plot description hints that both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would reprise their roles.

The company also has yet to confirm if Anne Hathaway would return as Andrea 'Andy' Sachs, or if other supporting cast members would return such as Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier, Gisele Bundchen and Tracie Thoms.

The 2006 film was adapted from the novel of the same name by Weisberger, which is loosely based on her time as an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

And just days ago, Emily hinted at her return to the big screen telling People, 'Oh my God, I can’t tell you anything.

'I just wanna get some good eye makeup going again. I'm hoping for that,' she said.
