British father and son are injured as fire rips through Thailand flats
by Perkin Amalaraj · Mail OnlineA British father and son have been left injured after a fire tore through an apartment block in Thailand in the early hours of Friday morning.
The relatives, named by police as Victor Misell, 73, and son Daniel, 51, fled from the property when a glass window exploded from the heat, sending shards towards them.
Paramedic Thaksin Tienkhao, 25, was also injured while helping to evacuate residents from the View Talay Residence 5 in the Jomtien area of Pattaya.
The room owner, Daniel, suffered from smoke inhalation, while his father Victor sustained burns on parts of his body. Both of them are being treated in hospital.
Police Colonel Navin Thirawit, superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, said: ‘We sent officers to inspect the scene and found that the source of the fire was at room 612, which was severely damaged before the flames spread to other rooms.'
‘As for injured victims, two foreigners received burn wounds on their bodies, many victims suffered from smoke inhalation, and a rescuer was injured from a glass cut.'
‘We are investigating the cause of the fire and will contact the forensic police to join the inspection of the premises.'
Officers said they received an emergency call on November 1 at 2.46 am.
Police and firemen arrived at the popular seven-storey condominium and evacuated dozens of British residents, many of whom were choking on smoke.
Authorities also found scared tourists, using flashlights to ask for help.
Firefighters sprayed hoses for around 30 minutes before successfully extinguishing the fire.
Rescuers used a truck with a boom lift to evacuate some of the residents before providing first aid and taking them to the Pattaya City Hospital for treatment.
